European Network of Places of Peace (ENPP) was accepted as member of the World Tourism Organization

Following the contacts made since the beginning of the year with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) which culminated with a meeting in Madrid with the Secretary General's principal adviser on Tourism and Peace, Mr. Amr Al-Ghaffar, the European Network of Places of Peace (ENPP) was accepted as a new member of this agency of the United Nations for Tourism by decision made on the 101th Session of the UNWTO Executive Council and the 21st General Assembly held recently in Medellin, Colombia.

Acceptance of European Network of Places of Peace as UNWTO member is a international recognition of its objectives and activity that has developed and allow for worldwide release of their project and also the performance of subordinate joint actions on the theme "Tourism and Peace" in line with the current concerns of the UNWTO in the area of ​​development of Cultural Tourism.

Specifically, the organization of a conference in Portugal on "Tourism and Peace" expected in 2016, with the support of UNWTO, and the active participation of the Network and its members in the various European countries in the Centennial Celebrations of the End of First World War that the UNWTO will promote in 2018.

The application of European Network of Places of Peace to UNWTO member had the express support of the Secretary of State for Tourism of Portugal, Mr. Adolfo Mesquita Nunes and the President of Portuguese Tourism Agency, Mr. João Cotrim Figueiredo.
